Pennsylvania State Troopers Survive Deadly Ambush

Two Pennsylvania State Police troopers were shot and wounded in an ambush on August 7, 2025, while responding to a domestic violence call in rural Susquehanna County. This incident resulted in three deaths, including the shooter, highlighting the daily dangers law enforcement officers face.

Ambush Attack Details

Troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins responded to a shots-fired call at 11:17 AM when they were attacked by Carmine Faino, 61, who had already killed his neighbor, Lori Wasko, 57. Colonel Christopher Paris described how the troopers faced an attack from a position of tactical superiority, enduring "several dozen rounds" of rifle fire.

Casualties and Response:

• Trooper Perechinsky was shot twice in the chest and torso.

• Trooper Jenkins was shot twice, once in each arm.

• Despite his severe injuries, Perechinsky applied tourniquets to Jenkins' arms.

• Both troopers' vehicles were riddled with gunfire.

Community Impact and Investigation

Governor Josh Shapiro praised Trooper Perechinsky's actions, stating he saved lives and acted decisively under extreme pressure. The shooting occurred on State Route 171 in Thompson Township, about 40 miles north of Scranton.

An EMT responding to the scene was also targeted, with his vehicle hit by gunfire, causing him to swerve off the road and suffer minor injuries. The suspect, Faino, was ultimately killed by tactical teams after he shot down a state police drone and made threatening gestures.
