State Police troopers were shot and wounded in an ambush on August 7, 2025,
while responding to a domestic violence call in rural Susquehanna County. This
incident resulted in three deaths, including the shooter, highlighting the

Troopers Joseph
Perechinsky and William Jenkins responded to a shots-fired call at 11:17 AM
when they were attacked by Carmine Faino, 61, who had already killed his
neighbor, Lori Wasko, 57. Colonel Christopher Paris described how the troopers
faced an attack from a position of tactical superiority, enduring "several
dozen rounds" of rifle fire.

Governor Josh
Shapiro praised Trooper Perechinsky's actions, stating he saved lives and acted
decisively under extreme pressure. The shooting occurred on State Route 171 in
Thompson Township, about 40 miles north of Scranton.
An EMT
responding to the scene was also targeted, with his vehicle hit by gunfire,
causing him to swerve off the road and suffer minor injuries. The suspect,
Faino, was ultimately killed by tactical teams after he shot down a state
police drone and made threatening gestures.
